He was born on 26 April 1943 in Brasel, Swiss. His buildings
explore the sensory qualities of the spaces and materials like a
modern-minimalist style.
Zumthor has taught at Southern California Institute of
Architecture in Los Angeles (1988), the Technical University of Munich (1989),
Tulane University (1992), and the Harvard Graduate School of Design (1999).
Since 1996, he is professor at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio.

He always design with a perceptual purpose and almost always
his projects are emplaced on a natural context, he sometimes usewather color to
made croquis, or his models made with not conventional materials.
He won the 2009 Pritzker Prize, with the Vals Spa, the
proyect tell the romantic story between the rock and wather. He published
different books about architecture, some are Thinking architecture or
Atmospheres, among others.
